In the distant past Oberon sent Bleys and Eric into shadow to deal with a menace that was cropping up at the time. In this shadow were the Worm Riders of Slaagh and two brothers were causing trouble for Amber. Eric and Bleys tried to set them up against one another, and when this failed the brothers royal achieved a phyrric victory. Bleys later convinced the brother that remained alive to seek vengeance against Eric, who'd killed a worm brother, and sent him against Amber.
The king of the worms was killed, his queen sealed away. Now the Queen has returned.

Your Royal Highness: - I am instructed by his Majesty to inform your Royal Highness regarding certain matters which have transpired the evening before last. Enfin, whilst riding in the western Forest, several persons to include myself, Sir Owen, and the Necromancer Royal had the misfortune to be attacked by a number of creatures, of similar appearance to worms, but three to four feet long and topped with tendrils that proved to secrete some manner of acid. These creatures emerged from the ground without warning, and created difficult footing for cavalry when they did so.
Further, shortly after the emergence of these creatures, a second group followed, comprised of several dozens of horse-sized worm-creatures, upon which were mounted corpselike humanoids with maggots for hair. These riders appeared to be armed with swords, crossbows, and long spears, black in colour. Whilst within earshot, these creatures made references including "Death to the Usurper!" & others indicating that they believe your Royal Highness to be the Usurper in question.
Lacking the numbers at hand to contest their passage, our small company was forced to retire, whereupon I at once made to inform his Majesty, who in turn has desired that I make your Royal Highness aware of these matters.
Should your Royal Highness require additional information, or if I may be of other service, I beg your Royal Highness to consider me to be at your disposal.

It was through the efforts of Lawrence and Zurian that the Worm Riders would finally be exterminated. A group of rangers, lead by Lawrence, were able to track down the remnants and put them to the torch.
